Sketches

Practice, practice, practice! That's the only way that I will ever get things right. Portrait art is something that requires your eyes to be very well trained. You must be able to detect all the little things: the way a muscle curls around a mouth that's smiling, the look in someone's eyes, the way the light dances on the apples of their cheeks...and more importantly, once you can detect those things, your hand must cooperate and recreate that in your drawing or painting. That's how you achieve a true likeness since those things are what makes your husband, child, or parent unique in appearance. Here are some of the sketches I did last night - just for fun.
